At first glance, you might not notice that Silvertone Bar & Grill is there, but it’s definitely worth the second look. Tucked away from the hustle and bustle, Silvertone is my new favorite hidden gem. The restaurant is located in a basement on Bromfield Street in downtown Boston, close to a couple universities and plenty of local businesses. The main dining area isn’t too large, but there is extra seating and a bar in the back, which can be useful for larger gatherings. Thanks to its varied menu items, decent beer selection, and fantastic value in the usually pricy heart of Boston, the place fills up quickly during lunch and dinner times.
I took advantage of Silvertone’s proximity to my apartment and visited for lunch the other day. I consider myself a professional when it comes to judging macaroni and cheese, and I’ll proudly give Silvertone a 10. My meal arrived as a bowl filled to the brim with macaroni, a variety of cheeses, and perfectly sized pieces of bacon (upon request) topped with buttery breadcrumbs, all baked to golden brown perfection. The proportion of cheese to macaroni is just perfect. If you plan on grabbing a meal there, I would plan on taking leftovers home, but in case you have room in your stomach, it also comes with a field greens salad on the side.
