Looking for a fun night out in LA? Consider indulging in some dinner, drinks, and burlesque dancing at The Edison. The Edison is located in Downtown LA in an old power plant turned into a 1920s-style speakeasy. The Edison recreates a feel of invention and imagination, decorated with old boilers, Edison-era light bulbs, and other mechanical artifacts. This bar and lounge is very spacious, which is pretty rare in LA, and has multiple bars (making it very convenient to stay hydrated).
Since the lines to get into The Edison can be rather long, I suggest you make reservations for dinner (great food!), or you can make a table reservation for the evening. Also, don’t forget to dress to impress. Men must be dressed in shoes and collared shirts in order to get in. Oh, and if you’re in the mood to really take in the 1920’s, feel free to dress in your best flapper attire! Don’t be surprised if you see some flappers in the crowd.
In addition to the fun décor, The Edison often has live jazz music playing, and most of the time has burlesque performances or some kind of fun entertainment throughout the night. You can always check their website calendar for details around what bands and/or events are happening. It’s a definite must if you are into different and very tasty libations; make sure you try one of their “signature innovations,” like “The Mistress” (my favorite!). The Edison even offers absinthe (commonly ordered at the bar or by a Green Fairy!); however, those of you visiting from Europe you should be aware that this isn’t the absinthe you experience back home.
If you aren’t able to get to The Edison early enough for dinner and need a quick and yummy bite to eat, make sure to check out Pitfire Pizza Company, which is next door to The Edison. They have amazing pizza, house-made seasonal lemonade, and house-made white and red sangria.
